SASARAM: A 50-year-old trader was shot dead on a highway in
Rohtas district on Wednesday by four bike-borne assailants, who fled with Rs 4 lakh in cash they were carrying, police said. The man’s 30-year-old son was injured in the firing and has been admitted to a hospital.
Dinara residents Lalji Sah and his son Bipin Kumar were accosted by the four men on NH 30 near Belwaiya village under Dinara polivce station.
Sah and his son Bipin had withdrawn the cash from a bank and were on their way to their shop when they were intercepted. The four armed men tried to snatch the bag with the cash, but when the father-son duo resisted, the assailants fired at them. The father died on the way to a hospital in
Sasaram while the son is under treatment at a nursing home where his condition is said to be stable.
The trader’s son was waylaid last month too when Rs 1.80 lakh was snatched from him, the police are yet to crack the case. After the second incident within a month, local traders blocked the NH 30 on Wednesday in protest against the spurt in crime in the area.
The rise in cases of snatching in the district has the local traders worried. Last week, criminals on motorcycle had managed to loot Rs six lakh from a contractor near the civil court in Sasaram, despite the presence of cops in the area. In this case, too, the police have failed to get any leads.
