Ammukkutty Amma and Kali Amma are in their nineties. They do not remember how many times they have voted and how many elections they have witnessed. But they voted on Tuesday with the same zest and excitement that one sees in first-time voters. They were the most senior voters at ALP School, Mangode, in the Thrikkadeeri panchayat area of Palakkad constituency. Both of them have voted at the same school ever since they started voting. Though they have polled most of their votes in ballot papers in the past, they agree that electronic voting machines have their advantages. It’s good to vote in the machine and it’s fast and simple, they said.
