Gurgaon: A mobile phone store employee has been arrested for allegedly stalking and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in the city.
The girl, who was a Class 9 student in a local government school, stopped attending classes six months ago out of fear as the accused allegedly used to accost her on the way to and from school. The girl said Vishal (20), a resident of Rajiv Nagar, works with a mobile store in the area.
“He had been stalking and molesting me for many months. I told my family and they warned him to stop, but he persisted. I was so scared that I stopped going to school due to his continual harassment,” she told police.
On Sunday, Vishal allegedly accosted her in the Sector 14 market and grabbed her hand. When she raised the alarm, he fled.
She reached home and informed her family, and they approached police on Monday. An FIR was registered against the accused under sections 8 (punishment for sexual assault) and 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of the POCSO Act at Women’s police station (West). Vishal was arrested from his home the same day.
“The accused has confessed to the crime. We produced him in a city court on Tuesday, which sent him to judicial custody,” said sub-inspector Sunita, the investigating officer.
In another case, a Nepalese man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl in Sector 10 on Monday.
The child was playing near her home around 2pm when Virender Kumar (42) allegedly grabbed her. “He caught my daughter and molested her. She managed to raise the alarm as he was trying to remove her undergarments. Kumar fled after passersby came to her aid,” the girl’s mother told police.
An FIR was filed against him under Section 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the POCSO Act at Sector 10A police station and he was arrested later on Monday. He was produced in a city court and sent to judicial custody the next day.
