The father of an autorickshaw driver, who is accused of instigating youth from Malwani, Malad, to join the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group in 2015, deposed on Wednesday in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court, which is hearing the case against his son and another accused .

59-year-old Ibrahim Sayyed told the court that his son, Mohsin Sayyed, had no role to play in the case. He claimed that Mohsin had left for ‘jamat’ or congregational prayer when he went missing on December 15, 2015.

The other accused is one Khalid Ahmed Nawazuddin alias Rizwan.

Both went missing from their homes in 2015 and were suspected of trying to go to Syria to join ISIS. They were arrested in early 2016.

“Ibrahim was not declared hostile by the prosecution,” said Mohsin’s lawyer, Wahab Khan, following the cross-examination.

As per the prosecution’s case, Rizwan and Mohsin instigated and radicalised youth from Malwani to join ISIS with the help of two other wanted accused.

The prosecution has alleged that Mohsin, along with two others, had left home on the pretext of going for a friend’s wedding but in reality, were attempting to join ISIS in Syria.
