The suspected drug peddlers were identified as 36-year-old Hari Om and 38-year-old Varun Tyagi. They had been living in a rented room in Ghaziabad for the last three years, police said.
Police said Hari Om was the kingpin of a 13-member gang. “The gang used to sell 500 kilograms of different kinds of drugs every month. The drugs were routed through Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh to UP, Delhi, and NCR and supplied,” said Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police (crime).
Om and Tyagi are history sheeters, police said, adding that Om has revealed the name of the other members involved in drug peddling and the areas where they supplied in the last one year. Police said they could not find anything when they checked the vehicle but when they looked into the boot space, they found packets of cannabis placed all over.
