Dang’s Gira Darbar records 95% polling

Surat: The Valsad parliamentary constituency recorded the highest voter turnout of 74.09% on Tuesday with tribal dominated Dang assembly seat contributing a larger share with 81.23% votes being polled. However, none of the polling station in Dang could achieve the 100% polling which was a reality in 2014 parliamentary election.
During Tuesday’s polling Gira Darbar booth recorded 95.32% polling, highest in Dang while the popular tourist destination Saputara-1 booth recorded the lowest at 44.86%.
On 355 polling stations, of the 1.74lakh registered voters, 1.41 lakh exercised their right.
“Majority of the registered voters living here never miss to vote. Though we have done extensive awareness campaign but the overall awareness for voting is high,” said N K Damore, district collector, Dang.

For Valsad parliamentary seat there is a direct fight between BJP’s sitting MP Dr K C Patel and Congress’ Jitu Chaudhary.
In 2014, Dholya Umbar polling booth recorded 100% polling while the total polling in Dang assembly segment remained almost same of 81.32%. However, Dang has improved its polling percentage since 2014 as in 2009 general election only 64.09% voters have exercised their franchise.
