HYDERABAD: Three more Intermediate students, including two girls, committed
suicide in
Telangana in the last 24 hours after failing their exams. This takes the total number of student suicides due to Inter exam results to 19.
Over 9.5 lakh students appeared for Intermediate first and second year exams held in March this year. The Board of Intermediate Education, which announced the results on April 18, declared that 3 lakh students failed. The Telangana high court directed the state government and the Board to provide a concrete timeline for the re-evalutation of the answer sheets of the 3 lakh by April 29.
Human rights activists alleged that students were killing themselves or slipping into depression because of the negligence of officials who released the results in a hurried manner.
