The Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency recorded 73.37% voting in the elections on Tuesday. The voting percentage in the Attingal segment was 74.13%.
The polling percentage in the Thiruvananthapuram segment was 68.69 in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections while in Attingal it was 68.71.
Brisk polling was reported through the day on Tuesday in polling stations in the coastal localities. Long queues were witnessed even after the close of voting at 6 p.m.
Governor P. Sathasivam and his wife Saraswathi Sathasivam cast their votes at a booth at Jawahar Nagar Lower Primary School. Minister for Tourism Kadakampally Surendran polled his vote at Government High School, Karikkakom.
Candidates
LDF candidate in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha segment C. Divakaran exercised his franchise at Government Higher Secondary School, Kamaleswaram, while Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor and LDF candidate in the Attingal segment A. Sampath voted at Cotton Hill school. BJP candidate in the Thiruvananthapuram segment Kummanam Rajasekharan cast his vote at Fort High School.
In the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, the Parassala Assembly constituency recorded the highest poll percentage of 76.04, while the Thiruvananthapuram segment recorded the least – 63.18.
In the Attingal Lok Sabha constituency, the Kattakada Assembly constituency had the highest poll percentage, 75.05.
The Varkala segment recorded the least of 66.1%.
There are 27.14 lakh voters in the district, with women – 14,23,857 – outnumbering men – 12,90,259. There were 48 transgender voters. The total number of booths was 2,715.
There were 17 candidates in the fray in Thiruvananthapuram and 19 in Attingal.
