The
Supreme Court on Wednesday said that it would examine whether former court staff, recently sacked for changing an order directing
RCom chairman Anil Ambani to appear in court, had conspired to frame CJI
Ranjan Gogoi in a
sexual harassment case.
CJI Gogoi had sacked them for the order after Justice R F Nariman found them guilty of changing the order deliberately.
A bench led by Justice Arun Mishra said that the bench would also enquire into whether there was anything in a lawyer's claim that there was a large group of disgruntled employees who were party to bench hunting and fixing in the court.
"We will not tolerate this. There is no place in this court for such things," Justice Mishra said reacting to claims to this effect made by lawyer Utsav Bains.
The bench clarified that this was independent of any probe into the veracity of the allegations levelled against the CJI. That will be probed by the in house panel headed by Justice S A Bobde. It also includes Justices N V Ramana and Indira Bannerjee.
