Mitsubishi Introduces Pajero Final Edition In Japan, Marks The End Of A 37 Year Run

The Mitsubishi Pajero has reached the end of the road in Japan as the automaker has announced plans to discontinue the model in August.

In order to celebrate the SUV and its 37 year run in the country, Mitsubishi will offer a Final Edition which is limited to just 700 units.

Based on the Pajero Exceed, the Final Edition features additional standard equipment including a sunroof and roof rails. Customers can also order a Final Edition Accessory Package that adds a rear spoiler, a spare tire cover and mud flaps with Pajero badging.

Inside, the model comes equipped with power front seats, leather upholstery and illuminated “Final Edition” sill plates.

Power comes from a 3.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 187 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 325 lb-ft (441 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a five-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system with a locking rear differential.

Pricing starts at ¥4,530,600 ($40,512 / £31,305 / €36,217) including an 8% consumption tax. Buyers will also receive special stickers and a Mitsubishi-branded watch from Citizen.

While the Pajero is going away in Japan, Mitsubishi said the Pajero and Pajero Sport will continue to be sold in other markets. We reached out to Mitsubishi UK for clarification and were told the company has already stopped importing the Shogun and there are only a few models left in inventory.

The Pajero / Shogun will remain in production for a handful of markets including Australia and the Middle East. However, Mitsubishi UK stated that’s just “for now and there is no specific time limit on that.” The company also said a “direct replacement isn’t planned at the moment.”
