Unassuming Audi TT RS Packs A 734 HP Powerhouse Under The Hood

The Audi TT RS may look relatively unassuming from the outside, but it goes like stink.

Powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder with 400 hp, the TT RS accelerates at frightening speeds. However, this particular example is even more remarkable.

That’s because this TT RS comes from UK’s APR and was built in just three days. The tuning company, which has a great deal of expertise with Audis, fitted the powertrain with a TTE700 Hybrid Turbo, installed uprated injectors, an enlarged fuel pump, APR intercooler, and new performance software. All up, the car pumps out 734 hp and when sitting on Hoosier drag radial tires at all four corners, managed to sprint down the quarter mile in 9.7-seconds at 144 mph (231 km/h) during the recent GTI Spring Festival at the Santa Pod Raceway.

Big power combined with cute looks

The video below includes a couple of the car’s quarter-mile runs during the event, including one where it was pitted against a tweaked 911 Turbo S. However, the best the Porsche could do was a 9.981-second quarter mile. However, it’s worth noting that the Turbo S seems to be running on standard street tires, so maybe it wasn’t an apples to apples comparison.

Nevertheless, this clip serves as a reminder of just how fast Audi‘s range-topping small coupe can be. The 2.5-liter five of the TT RS is also used by the RS3 and RSQ3 and is known to reliably pump out impressive figures with minimal modifications. Not that any of them are in dire need of more power…
