Jannayak Janata Party banks on young, educated faces for Lok Sabha elections

While the JJP has chosen seven candidates, its ally AAP has three candidates for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. The alliance includes three Jat candidates, two each of Brahmin and Dalit and one each of Muslim, Baniya and Ahir candidates.

The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which is contesting the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the AAP in Haryana, has tried to field young and educated faces for seven seats.

While the JJP has chosen seven candidates, its ally AAP has three candidates for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. The alliance includes three Jat candidates, two each of Brahmin and Dalit and one each of Muslim, Baniya and Ahir candidates.

Five of JJP’s candidates are well-educated and as young as below 37 years. It is the only party to have fielded a Muslim candidate – Mehboob Khan, from Gurugram constituency. An alumnus of IIM-A, Khan, 65, faces Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh and Congress’ Capt Ajay Yadav. In Hisar, US-educated Dushyant Chautala, 31, is seeking re-election. He faces BJP’s candidate Brijendra Singh, an IAS officer and Congress’ Bhavya Bishnoi, son of Adampur MLA.

Digvijay Chautala, 29, the younger brother of Dushyant, would take on the two-time CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and sitting BJP MP Ramesh Kaushik in Sonepat. In Rohtak, Pradeep, 32, who is a postgraduate in law, faces Congress’ Deepender Hooda and BJP’s Arvind Sharma. The JJP’s candidate in Bhiwani-Mahendergarh is Swati, 30, an entrepreneur, who has studied in the US. She faces BJP’s Dharamvir and Congress’ Shruti Choudhry.

Nirmal Singh, 37, who is convener of Nirmal Soch Charitable Trust, is contesting against Congress’ Ashok Tanwar and BJP’s Sunita Duggal in Sirsa. Jai Bhagwan, 57, who has twice remained president of Pipli grain market, faces INLD’s Arjun Chautala, son of INLD leader Abhay Chautala, in Kurukshetra. The remaining three AAP candidates are Prithvi Raj from Ambala, Krishan Kumar Aggrawal from Karnal and Naveen Jaihind from Faridabad.
