Gurgaon: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Haryana chief Naveen Jaihind filed his nomination from Faridabad on Tuesday in the presence of senior AAP functionary and Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) chief Dushyant Chautala. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was also expected to be present but his plans got changed at the last minute.
Before the nomination was filed, the leaders addressed supporters and took a dig at the current BJP government, calling it corrupt and inefficient. Sisodia said atrocities against minorities had increased in Faridabad during the BJP rule and AAP, if elected to power, would put a stop to them. “Candidates from the two leading parties come from big political families which will never work for the benefit of the people,” said Sisodia, referring to the Congress and BJP.
Jaihind faces competition from BJP candidate and incumbent MP Krishan Pal Gujjar and Congress candidate Avtar Singh Badhana. He said, “While the BJP government has been busy fighting controversies, one after another, the AAP government in Delhi has been working towards development.” He asked Faridabad residents to vote for change.
In his nomination affidavit, Jaihind declared assets worth only Rs 74,651. His wife and Delhi women’s commission chief Swati Maliwal has assets worth only Rs 72,143. Jaihind declared his yearly income at Rs 71,203 and he holds Rs 23,000 in cash and gold worth Rs 15,300.
Jaihind has four police cases registered against him and currently, the cases are under litigation. In 2013, he was protesting changes in the RTI Act and was charged for the same. He is also charged in a case regarding welfare of cows. “Whenever I have tried to raise my voice against the policies of the BJP government, it has tried to muffle my voice by filing incorrect charges. In time, we will be able to annul all allegations,” he said.
