HISAR: The police have booked nine persons under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act following a complaint by a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly married to a man much older to her.

Among those booked on Monday are the minor’s mother, grandparents, uncle, husband and sister-in-law.

In her complaint, the girl said her father had died long time ago and that her mother took her to her maternal grandparents’ home about a month ago. She said there was a feast, which was attended by four-five people besides her grandparents, uncle and aunt, where she was asked to garland a man and then made to accompany him to his home. She said during her stay with the man, he raped her several times.

When she returned to her maternal home after several days, someone complained to the Fatehabad Child Welfare Committee, which recorded the victim’s statement and handed over the case to Fatehabad woman police station. Fatehabad women police station sent the case to Hisar police after registering a zero FIR.

Hisar police have registered a case of rape of minor, child marriage and aggravated sexual assault.
