HYDERABAD: In order to ensure passenger-friendly services, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) will revamp the Central Bus Station (CBS) at Imlibun with modern amenities.
The corporation has drawn up plans for more shelters, new stores, adequate seating capacity, modern toilets and other advanced facilities and has already initiated works to build temporary bus shelters at the place where the historic 89-year-old Mississippi Hangar collapsed last year.
“We are currently building temporary bus shelters which can be dismantled and set up at another location if required. We have decided to build these shelters because passengers were facing inconvenience while waiting for their bus under the scorching sun,” said M Ravinder, executive director, TSRTC.
The shelters will also have temporary benches till the construction of a modern bus station. “As the construction of shelters is almost complete, we will now focus on improving facilities at the bus station,” senior TSRTC officials said. “The bus station will soon have modern toilets, adequate seating capacity and other amenities,” said Ravinder.
The hangar, which was recently dismantled after the collapse in July last year, was imported from Butler & Co of United States in the 1930s for maintenance of Mississippi aircraft.
It was later handed over to the Nizam’s Road Transport Department in 1932 and served as the first bus depot in the city designated as starting point for bus services to erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and bordering districts.
