NIA summons Geelani’s grandson for questioning

SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has summoned Syed Ali Geelani’s grandson’s Anees-ul-Islam to Delhi on April 29 for questioning.
Sources said Anees received a call around 12 noon on Wednesday asking him to appear before the NIA in Delhi on April 29. While it is not known why NIA has summoned Anees, the agency is most likely going to question him over the terror funding case for which his father Altaf Ahmad Shah is lodged in Tihar jail.
Anees is the son of Syed Ali Geelani’s eldest daughter. He was in news in 2017 after he was appointed the previous year in Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre, a subsidiary of J-K tourism development corporation, flouting rules of recruitment policy of the state government.

In 2016, Anees gained back-door entry into the government-owned corporation by the Mehbooba Mufti government when Kashmir was up in flames on the protest calls of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The protest calls were made soon after the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani.
Geelani’s sons Naseem and Nayeem have also been summoned by the NIA previously.
