Controversial Biopic: Mamata threatens to file Defamation if matter is not stopped; Am not Narendra Modi

Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee‏ today clarified that she has nothing to do with a biopic “Baghini:” -Bengal Tigress- a film touted to be a biopic of the Trinamool Congress supremo, and threatened to stop this or else she would file a defamation case.

Her outburst on the controversial biopic took place after the Election Commission of India (ECI) got the trailers of biopic on alleged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee removed from three websites for alleged violation of the poll body directive.

The ECI said on Tuesday the film was yet to get a certification from the Central Board of Film Certification, and the matter was under examination after it had received a report on the issue.

The EC on April 10 order, said: “any biopic material in the nature of biography/hagiography subserving the purposes of any political party or any individual entity connected to it, which is intended to, or which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections, should not be displayed in electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of model code of conduct”.

On the controversial film, scheduled to be released on May 3, the BJP had moved to the poll body and sought a ban on the release of the movie till the Lok Sabha elections are over.

” What is all this nonsense being spread, ” Ms Banerjee twitted on her account on Wednesday, about the movie.

She said ” I have nothing at all to do with any biopic. If some young people have collected stories & expressed themselves, that’s up to them.Not related to us.”

” I am not Narendra Modi. Please do not compel me to file for defamation by spreading lies,” Ms Banerjee warned.
