Eight cases of dengue in city so far this year

There have been eight cases of dengue, four cases of chikunginya and one case of dengue reported in Delhi so far, the latest report released by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday stated.

Among these, one case of dengue was recorded in south Delhi this week, the second this month. At the same time last year, 12 cases of dengue had been recorded. The first case of malaria was recorded in the cantonment area last week and at the same time last year three cases of malaria was recorded. To do with chikunguniya, two cases were recorded in south Delhi while two were “untraced after investigation”, which happens when the address of the affected person may not have been recorded properly, a corporation official said.

The SDMC is the nodal body for compiling weekly reports of vector-borne diseases from all civic bodies in Delhi.

To combat the spread of such diseases the civic bodies have sprayed 1,79,881 houses so far and visited 77,51,140 houses to check for mosquito breeding, of which 3,776 were found positive for mosquito breeding.
