A second major fire has broken out on a Gwynedd mountain.

The fire started just after 1.30pm on the hills above Beddgelert.

A pump and crew from nearby Porthmadog were at the scene for around five hours but left earlier this evening.

The flames were still burning when they left but the situation is being monitored by locals.

It now appears that the flames have intensified and the fire service has returned to the scene.

It comes as the North Wales Fire & Rescue Service battled a larger fire on a mountain in nearby Blaenau Ffestiniog, which saw 20 homes evacuated.
