RAJKOT: The Rajkot city police will be launching a special mobile phone application on Tuesday that will not only help track history-sheeters but also allow senior cops monitor juniors and other field level staff.
The app, ‘Rajkot Suraksha Kavach’, was tested last month by senior cops after installing the software on their mobile phones. Since it was worked smoothly and gave the desired results, it is full-fledged launch will be done Tuesday.
According to city police, nearly 200 cops in Rajkot city will use this app developed under guidance of city police commissioner Manoj Agarwal.
The application has list of assembly constituencies falling under the Rajkot parliamentary seat along with details of the respective police stations.
A cop can get details of crime records of last five years of each of these police stations registered under various IPC sections.
Talking to TOI, Agarwal said, “I have instructed all police stations to check on all the criminals and bootleggers in their areas on the night before voting. I will get the report of their work through this app. For senior cops, it is necessary to get confirmation that a field officer is working according to his assignment. This app will be useful for that. Now, filed staff cannot give us random list of people he or she has checked.”
This mobile application also shows live feed of sensitive booths, the activity near it during the day, what the cops are doing to prevent any kind of criminal activities.
This will also fix accountability of the cops who have to otherwise do huge paperwork at the end of the day, Agarwal added.
On Tuesday, the app will be tested and will continue to be used for routine police work. “After elections, we will modify the programme a little and remove assembly constituency wise details. The details of police stations will be available sector wise,” Agarwal said.
