NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader
Digvijaya Singh lashed out at the RSS on Tuesday and accused it of disrespecting those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Digvijaya's remarks come days after his BJP rival
Sadhvi Pragya Thakur said that 26/11 martyr
Hemant Karkare died during the attacks in Mumbai as she "cursed" him for torturing her. Pragya later apologized for her remarks.
Digvijaya is contesting against Thakur from the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh.
In a series of tweets, Digvijaya said that recent remarks against Hemant Karkare shows that the Sangh comes first for its members and not
mother India.
"The remarks made against martyr Hemant Karkare by Sangh members show that nothing matters for them except Sangh ... not even mother India. Anyone who speaks against the Sangh is branded 'anti-national'. Even the martyrs of India are 'devils' if the Sangh does not like them," Digvijaya said.
"We swear by the Constitution of India and not the Sangh. We are devotees of Bharat Mata," he added.
"After the independence, the hard work of the countrymen, the sacrifice of soldiers/policemen, the strength of the constitution, the policies of the Congress went into the formation of a strong India," he said.
"When Nehru ji laid the foundation stone of our country, he took everyone along including Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mookerjee. But the kind of India you want to build does not even respect the martyrs," Singh said.
