Shocking moment a 'drunk' man falls on to tracks as a tram pulls away after he tried to pry the doors open with his hands

This is the shocking moment a stumbling man narrowly avoids being run over as he falls on to the tracks while trying to board a moving tram.

The unnamed man is seen trying to pry the tram doors open as it leaves the station in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. 

As the tram pulls away his arm appears to get caught by the carriage and he stumbles and spins around.

He then drops down and disappears between the platform edge and the tram before the video cuts out. 

Even though it looks he he ends up underneath the moving vehicle the man miraculously walked away unscathed.

The incident happened at Castle Square station and held up the network for 15 minutes while emergency services scrambled to the scene to help.

Trams were held between Castle Square and Cathedral as emergency services attended the incident to help the man.

The video was taken by passerby Craig Moore, who switched his camera off and ran to the man's aid as soon as he saw what happened.

A Sheffield Supertram spokesman said: 'We were aware of this incident that occurred over the weekend.

'Safety is our absolute priority and we have already begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

'Although not shown in this footage, our own CCTV footage shows that the driver stopped the tram as soon as the person fell over - the man pictured was not injured and walked away from the stop.

'We'd like to take the opportunity to remind customers about the safe use of trams. Once the doors have closed and the tram is ready to depart, customers should not attempt to board.'
