Robot making: 6 Emerald Heights students make it to national contest

Six students of Emerald Heights International School have made it to the national level of Robotex 2019 competition in both elementary and advance level. The students bagged first place in both the levels in Lego Line Follower and Young Scientist categories.  Declared as winners, Aditya Chawda and Anand Pawar received cash prize of Rs 10,000. The team competing in Lego Line Follower category received cash prize of Rs 15,000 for their well-coded and perfectly developed robot.

There were 14 teams in Lego Line Follower and 6 teams in Young Scientist category. Winning the regional round, both teams will compete in nationals to be held in Mumbai or Ahmedabad in July 2019, according to their coach Suresh Rajput.

Aditya and Anand adopted innovative approach to build a robot by adding brooms and pick up crane to the robot. Their robot was designed using Avishkar kit. “Our robot has crane hooks on both sides that helps it in picking up garbage from hands before disposal,” they said. Such robots can reduce garbage disposal cost effectively. “Humans won’t have to pick up trash, which is often seen as menial task,” Aditya and Anand said. They added sensors and brushes in front to clean ground.

Lego Line Follower winners

“I have worked on Avishkar kit before; it was easier as coding is simpler. Lego coding was challenging but fun and more precise. I can add ultrasonic sensor to this model and use it to do various tasks including automatic garbage disposal.” Aman Rajput

“Robots can change the world with their ease of working. I want to build a robot that can help us in utilising renewable source of power for sustainable development.”
Prathmesh Chouhan

“We hope to win nationals and participate next year with more sophisticated and useful robots. Robotics gives us a way to hope for a better future with innovative techniques to solve problems.”
Huzefa Malu

“I think we need more robots that can conserve Mother Earth, which includes saving water and using minimal resources. It was a fun experience at Robotex and I am eagerly waiting for nationals.”
