Mallanasagar displaced seek justice

In a bid to give a voice to those struggling to relocate in the wake of land acquisition for irrigation projects in Siddipet district, three land oustees are gearing up to contest the local body elections.

Mohd. Hayatuddin, a resident of Vemulaghat village in Toguta mandal, is planning to contest for the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) membership from Toguta mandal. He was one among those who led the 960-day agitation held in the village demanding implementation of the Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act – 2013 (LA Act- 2013).

Even after several villagers gave in to the government and sold their land for the construction Mallannasagar project, Mr. Hayatuddin, along with a few others has been continuing his fight for equal justice to all. About eight acres of his land is getting submerged in the project.

S. Ashok, another land oustee set to lose three acres land from Etigaddakishtapur is set to contest the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections from the village. Another land oustee who has been involved in the fight for justice, Ch. Naveen from Toguta mandal headquarters, is also in fray for MPTC elections from his village. “We hope that the people for whom we are fighting for will support us in the elections,” said Mr. Hayatuddin.
