A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a man to settle an old grudge, the police said on Monday. Two persons were arrested earlier in connection with the case, they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ram Gopal Naik said that the accused, identified as Karan Singh alias Kannu, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing one Shanu in Shakurpur area. A reward of ₹50,000 had been announced on his arrest.

The police said that on January 9, the victim’s friend said, about three-four of them were standing on the ground in front of NDM-II building when four people came and started beating Shanu. “They pulled out knives and started attacking Shanu on his chest, abdomen and face. The complainant and his other friends fled the spot out of fear,” Mr. Naik said, adding that the friends returned and took Shanu to a hospital where he was declared dead. Two persons were arrested in the case, while two others, including Karan, were absconding.

The police also said that an information was received that Karan would come to Sarai Kale Khan after which a trap was laid and he was arrested.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly told the police that last year, on the eve of Dussehra, Karan and his friends were returning from a fair when they had an altercation with Shanu in which Karan sustained a head injury.

“The matter was resolved at the time but Karan had a grudge against Shanu. On January 8, Karan’s friend Puneet also had an altercation with the victim after which the two and their friends hatched a plan to kill Shanu,” Mr. Naik said.
