Cong.-JD(S) criticised for not protesting against Pulwama attack

The BJP said here on Monday that it is hopeful of winning more than 23 Lok Sabha seats in the State.

Addressing the media, C.T. Ravi, general secretary of the State unit of the party, said that according to the party’s estimate, it is hopeful of winning more than 10 seats in the elections conducted in the State on April 18. In the other phase being held on April 23, the party is confident of winning at least 13 of the 14 constituencies.

To a question on senior RSS functionary Kalladkka Prabhakar Bhat decrying the BJP’s current strategy of seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a press conference in Madikeri, he said that the BJP is not indulging in “vyakthi puje” but was only praising the “vyakthithva” of Mr. Modi.

The BJP is only projecting how the country has been recognised in the world; how it has been protected and how the country has progressed under the leadership of Mr. Modi, he said.

Condemning the terrorist attack in Sri Lanka on Sunday, he said that all nations should unite to wipe out terrorism.

The attack in Sri Lanka was unfortunate. Terrorism based on any ideology should not be supported.

He said that India was also facing Pakistan-promoted terrorism and Maoist activities. Except in Jammu and Kashmir and Chhatisgarh, the Union government has been able to prevent terrorist attacks on civilians in other parts of the country during the regime of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Criticising the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) leaders for staging a protest against the search carried out by Income Tax officials in some parts of the State recently, Mr. Ravi said that those two parties did not protest against the Pulwama attack.

Mr. Ravi said that such protests by the Congress and the Janata Dal(S) made it clear that they had made prior preparation for funding their election activities.

That is why they took to the streets to protest against the action by the Income Tax Department, he added.
