LUCKNOW: After the window for withdrawal of nominations for the fifth phase of polling ended on Monday, Amethi is left to witness the largest contest with 27 candidates in the fray. The biggest fight is between Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and BJP's Smriti Irani.
A total of 181 candidates from 14 constituencies will try their luck during the fifth phase on May 6.
Rae Bareli, from where former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is contesting, has 15 candidates in the fray. Lucknow, where sitting BJP MP and Union home minister Rajnath Singh faces challenge from Samajwadi Party's Poonam Sinha, has 14 candidates - the third highest among the 14 constituencies in the fifth phase. April 18 was the last date for filing nominations for the fifth phase and Lucknow with 51 aspirants had been the choicest seat. However, after scrutiny, the numbers dropped to less than a third.
The lowest number of candidates - eight each - are from Dhaurahra and Banda seats.
