A schoolboy has been rushed to hospital after he was attacked by a Labrador while riding his bike in a suburban park.

Seven-year-old Harrison James was at Leopold Reserve in Geelong, Victoria on Easter Sunday when he was bitten by the dog.

He was knocked off his bike and the attack left the boy with severe wounds, the Geelong Advertiser reported.

His mother Barb James said he was badly injured and was rushed to Geelong Hospital's emergency department.

He was given an intravenous drip and had stitches in an attempt to heal the wounds.

A puncture wound on his leg was so severe that he had to placed under general anaesthetic as doctors cleaned it.

'He was crying and so was his cousin - a nine-year-old - who witnessed it,' Ms James said.

'Imagine if it had been his face.'

Harrison said he was riding his bike before the dog bit him on the 'leg and my bum'.

'There was a deep hole. It was bad and hurt. I got a shock,' he said.

City of Greater Geelong spokesman Geoff Russell said there were two dog attacks on Sunday.

Mr Russell said the other attack involved a dog running out of a house in the suburb of Whittington and biting a woman.

Both dogs have been seized by the council, and investigations into both incidents are continuing.
