Jaipur: Twelve doctors and other healthcare staff have been served notices after the health department team exposed negligence of patients at the Sanganer community health centre (CHC) on Monday.
Chepasani housing board satellite hospital has more or less the same situation. The building of the satellite hospital was constructed at a cost of Rs2.5 crore. It has 13 doctors and 20 staff but only one child delivery was done. The hospital has four gynecologists but the operation theatre is lying unused.
During a campaign launched for inspecting hospitals and health centres, the health department team found that despite having all the facilities the Sanganer CHC did not perform surgeries. Moreover, the residents alleged that the staff demanded money for care of pregnant women and delivery of babies.
The department had posted a gynaecologist at Sanganer CHC, a general surgeon, an orthopaedic surgeon, an ophthalmology surgeon and an anaesthesia specialist. Despite all the facilities and deployment of a team of doctors, surgeries of appendix, cataract, herniorrhaphy and surgeries related to orthopaedics and gynaecology have not been performed for a long time. Besides, the team also found that anaesthesia specialists, who help in surgeries, were found serving in the outpatient department.
Special secretary (health) Dr Samit Sharma said that despite a sufficient number of doctors posted at Sanganer CHC along with all the facilities of wards, New Born Stabilisation Unit (NBSU), etc., no operation has been conducted for a long time.
He said the last major surgery was performed in May 2017. It was conducted by a doctor who has already retired from government service. In the past one year, two surgeries were performed in August and November, which were caesarean deliveries.
Two nurses, Kamlesh Gupta and Pushpa Chaudhary, were served notices as pregnant women alleged that the accused nurses demanded money for maternal care. CHC incharge and principal specialist (paediatrician) Dr K K Khandelwal, principal specialist (gynaecologist) Dr Abha Sethi, junior specialist (gynaecologist) Dr Vandana Gupta, anaesthesia specialist Dr Mohan Saini were served notices for not performing caesarean deliveries. Ward boy Mahesh Sharma was served notice for unsatisfactory work behaviour, while other doctors were served notices for coming late on duty.
