With over Rs 100 crore in assets, independent, INLD entrant are the richest candidates
An analysis of the affidavits filed by these candidates reveal that INLD’s Virender Rana and independent candidate Ishan Singh are the two richest candidates with the net worth of each being well over Rs 100 crore.
india Updated: Apr 24, 2019 02:30 ISTThe nomination process for Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat ended on Tuesday with 16 more entering the fray on the last day including the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and AAP-JJP candidates.
The district election office said that total 34 candidates will be fighting from the Gurgaon constituency.
An analysis of the affidavits filed by these candidates reveal that INLD’s Virender Rana and independent candidate Ishan Singh are the two richest candidates with the net worth of each being well over Rs 100 crore.
While Rana’s assets total to Rs 111 cr, Singh’s assets are worth Rs 103 crore. Both these candidates own substantial real estate in Gurugram.
Rana, who owns an IT company, has investments of around Rs 79 crore in securities, shares and bonds of different companies.
Singh on the other has a large real estate holding in Gurugram—worth Rs 90 crore, which forms the bulk of his networth. He has also invested in a number of startups and tech companies.
Rana has bank deposits worth Rs 3.12 crore, agricultural land Rs 7 crore and residential properties worth Rs 22 crore.
Singh has declared bank deposit of Rs 2 crore, investments of Rs 6 crore among other assets.
Meanwhile, sitting MP and BJP candidate Rao Inderjit Singh is worth Rs 42 crore, while his rival, Congress candidate Captain (retd) Ajay Singh Yadav has a declared net worth of Rs 22 crore.
Apart from party candidates, eight independent candidates also filed nomination papers from the constituency.
Independent candidates who filed nomination include Abdul Latif, Azad Singh, Sukhwinder, Inderjit, Virender, Pawan Kumar, Ishan Singh and Nasir Khan.
The party candidates who joined the fray include INLD candidate Virender Rana, JJP’s Mahmood Khan and Bahujan Janta Party’s Rachna.
Manita Singh, wife of sitting BJP candidate Rao Inderjit Singh also filed nomination as the covering candidate and submitted the nomination form on Tuesday.
The district administration also informed that general observer for Gurgaon Lok Sabha constituency Manmeet Kour Nanda and police observer JP Singh reached the city and too stock of the election preparation.
Nanda met officials at the Mini Secretariat and oversaw the nomination process. He also interacted with returning officer Amit Khatri.
Kour and Singh also visited the district election control room and asked the staff about the kind of information voters were seeking from them.
District magistrate Manisha Sharma told observers that control room number 1950 has till date received 21,141 calls. Also, they have received 228 complaints through the cVigil application.
As per the district election office, Nanda would be meeting the public every day between 3pm and 4pm at the PWD Guest House in the city, where she would hear their election-related complaints and address queries.
Nanda is an IAS officer and belongs to West Bengal cadre. Singh is an IPS officer and belongs to Himachal Pradesh cadre.
