On Monday, Amboli police registered an FIR against wrestler Narsingh Yadav, who is serving as the assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Mumbai Police.
According to the Hindustan Times, Narsingh Yadav is serving as the ACP in Mumbai Police’s local arms division 5. The FIR was registered after Yadav was found campaigning for the Congress on Sunday night with Mumbai North West candidate Sanjay Nirupam. The police have said that Yadav will face departmental proceedings. The incident came to light after a police team as part of bandobast duty was posted during Nirupam’s campaigning in Yadav Nagar in Andheri (West) on Sunday night.
A police officer told the leading daily, “Yadav shared the stage with Congress leaders. As per the law, no officers are allowed to campaign for any political party. After we saw it, we alerted our seniors and a report was sent to the Election Commission soon after.” The FIR against Yadav was registered on Monday under sections 129 (2) (Officers, etc., not to act for candidates or to influence voting) of the Representation of People’s Act.
After winning gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games Narsingh Yadav became eligible for the Class I job. He was selected for the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Maharashtra Police in 2012. But he could not take up the post in 2010 as he had not completed his graduation. He was caught cheating in a written examination in 2014 and was barred from becoming a deputy superintendent.
