This IPL season has seen a number of instances when the bails have not been dislodged despite the ball hitting the stumps with substantial force. It surfaced again in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.

It happened during Delhi Capitals chase in the final ball of the 16th over. Jofra Archer ran up and bowled a fast full bunger at Prithvi Shaw, who made room in order to scythe the ball over point. However, the young man could not connect and the ball kissed the bails on its way through to the wicket-keeper. A distraught Archer slumped down with his hands on his knees and looked around in absolute bewilderment.

This is not an isolated incident when the bails refused to come off. In the match against CSK, Dhoni defended a full ball from Archer which rolled back and hit the stumps, but the bails were not dislodged. Also, in the match between KXIP and CSK, Dhoni parried a throw on to the stumps but KL Rahul was lucky to survive as once again the zing bails was firmly placed on the stumps.

Also, in the match between RCB and CSK, Faf du Plessis was the lucky batsman as his bails were firmly intact despite a length ball from Umesh Yadav hitting the off stump.

One of the main reasons for this repeated occurrence is the weight of the zing bails, which is almost twice as that of a normal bail owing to the wiring which is embedded within.
