Aurus’ Convertible Looks Like A Russian Take On The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

A handful of Aurus convertibles were recently spotted in Red Square and now we’re getting a better look at them as several drop tops were used in a military parade.

Aurus hasn’t said much about the model, but the videos show the convertible follows in the footsteps of the Senat sedan. However, big changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the convertible has two long doors and a less pronounced shoulder line.

Out back, there’s a unique rear end with a flatter trunk and a large compartment that houses a retractable soft top. Tvzvezda.ru also quotes the Russian Minister of Industry and Trade as saying the ride height has been reduced 20 mm (0.8 inches) compared to the sedan.

The interior largely carries over, but the convertibles used for the parade have a number of special modifications. These include the removal of the front passenger seat and the installation of a sturdy hand grip which people can use while standing up. The convertibles have also been equipped with microphones and “special moisture-proof materials” which can withstand the occasional rain or snow storm.

Like the Senat, the convertible has a hybridized V8 engine that produces 590 hp (440 kW / 598 PS) and 649 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission which sends power and an all-wheel drive system.

It remains unclear if Aurus will offer a consumer version, but it would be an interesting competitor to the Rolls-Royce Dawn.
