AHMEDABAD: A 28-year-old man from Gandhinagar on Monday filed a complaint of assault and caste-based abuses against his friend as, according to the complainant, the accused — a security guard with a bank, doubted that he motivates people to file complaint against the guard.

The complainant, Nikul Parmar, works with Mansa mamlatdar’s office where he looks after electronic voting machines (EVMs) which are kept there for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Late on Sunday night, Parmar called up his friend and the accused in the case, Ajaysinh Chavda, aged around 28, to meet him at Pundra village in Mansa taluka of Gandhinagar where the accused works. As Chavda picked up the call, he began levelling allegations against Parmar without any reason, the complaint mentions.

“Chavda alleged that I encourage people to file complaint against him before officials of the bank where he works. When I said that I did not ask anyone to file any complaint, he became angry and started abusing me with caste-based slurs,” said Parmar.

“I was working in the private bank’s ATM two years ago but as Chavda was desperately seeking a job there, I shifted to another firm and helped him in getting the job of a security guard there. As he was not regular in his duty, people from nearby areas might have filed complaints against him. Chavda thought that I had encouraged people to file complaints,” said Parmar. After a while, Chavda rushed to Parmar’s locality — Rohitvas near Panjrapol in Mansa — and thrashed him badly. Parmar, who suffered injuries in the assault, was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he gave his statement before police.
