Doctor removes hair clip swallowed by 6-yr-old girl 4 months ago
Nagpur: Dr Sudhir Gupta, professor and head of gastroenterology department at the Super Specialty Hospital, saved the life of a six-year-old girl from Bhadravati in Chandrapur district. The girl had accidentally swallowed a hair clip four months back. The clip had got stuck in her duodenum but didn’t perforate any organ.

Dr Gupta removed the clip through endoscopy giving her relief from severe pain and preventing the clip from perforating the digestive system. “It was good that the clip had got stuck in a portion of the duodenum. If it had penetrated any part of the digestive system it could have been really risky to remove it,” said Dr Gupta.

The kid’s parents spent four months consulting doctors near Bhadravati, Amravati and Chandrapur. When the pain became unbearable, the parents decided to bring her to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in city.

The girl, Payal Dharne, belongs to a poor family. Her parents are daily wage workers and didn’t even have money for food during their stay in Nagpur.
