GUWAHATI: The weather is unlikely to play spoilsport in the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Assam on Tuesday.
On the eve of the second phase of polling held last week, a devastating thunderstorm hit poll preparations and Rongali Bihu celebrations.
Met officials said only light rain in isolated areas along the Assam-Meghalaya border and in western Assam bordering Bangladesh is likely on Tuesday. Though the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD based in Guwahati has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershower at a few places over Assam on Tuesday, most areas in Kokrajhar (ST), Dhubri, Barpeta and Gauhati constituencies going to the polls on April 23 are likely to witness favourable weather conditions for a high turnout, said a Met official.
"There is no possibility of a high intensity storm or thundersquall in Assam on Tuesday. There is also little possibility of rain in Guwahati on the polling day. However, towards the extreme west of Assam bordering Bangladesh and along the Meghalaya border, light rains may occur. But it is unlikely to disrupt the poll process as only isolated areas will be affected," the official added.
