MANGALURU: Chikkamagaluru MLA CT Ravi on Monday replied to minister Jayamala on her offer to send him books over his reported slur demeaning women at a BJP election rally in Hassan. Asserting that he will accept the books that Jayamala offered as he is open to ideas from any corner.
Jayamala at a press briefing in Mangaluru while offering to send books on use of cultured language to the BJP state general secretary, had compared his tongue to a ‘slipper’.
Ravi countered her remark, "If my tongue is a ‘slipper’, then will you consider the tongues of Siddaramaiah and Ibrahim to be pigs in a gutter or worms in a toilet." He added that in the 30-odd years in public life, he has never crossed limits of public decency even while countering his political opponents. "What I said at Hassan rally was mere reiteration of popular usage of locals when I asked if one could betray a country that they lived in and not my words," he said.
Ravi wondered that would she also ask her leaders who indulge in nothing but vilification of BJP leadership in filthiest of language, to mind their language.
"Is Jayamala so worried about the two words that I used in a larger context? It is common place to hear people use these words as part of their daily conversation in North Karnataka and Malnad region," he clarified while adding it would definitely sound harsh to people in the coast who were not used to this seeming harsh use of language. The MLA said he is expecting an answer from Jayamala if abuse that their leaders hurl on PM is part of Congress culture.
