International Mother Earth Day observed in various parts of State

Highlighting the bounden responsibility of every citizen to contribute their bit to protect the earth, town-based NGO Vibrants of Kalam staged a novel demonstration called ‘Dharani Deeksha’ on the occasion of World Earth Day here on Monday.

Some members of the NGO buried themselves up to their shoulders, while a few others up to their necks in makeshift sand pits at Dharna Chowk to draw public attention to the perils facing the earth.

They remained in the pits for about 20 minutes in symbolic demonstration of the serious threat posed by global warming-induced climate change to the seven continents and five oceans that make up our planet.

The demonstrators held placards highlighting the urgent need for concerted and conscious efforts to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change and protecting the earth’s vital ecosystems and precious natural resources.

They underlined the significance of simple interventions such as living an eco-friendly life, avoiding the use of plastic and reducing dependence on fossil fuel to create a liveable earth as envisioned by former President and space scientist late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Plastic-free living

In Karimnagar, Dharthi Bachao, a voluntary organisation, observed the International Mother Earth Day at the TS tribal welfare residential school in Sapthagiri Colony.
