Scores of supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Monday participated in six road shows organised by the party in the constituencies of East Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, New Delhi and Chandni Chowk.

The Lok Sabha constituencies of East Delhi and North East Delhi saw the biggest of these road shows. Hundreds of mini-trucks, cars, autorickshaws, electronic rickshaws, motorbikes and scooters were engaged in both rallies. The East Delhi one was led by AAP candidate from the constituency Atishi, accompanied by Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, while the one in North-East was led by AAP candidate Dilip Pandey, who was accompanied by AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai and minister Rajendra Pal Gautam.

“All former MPs in North-East Delhi have duped the voters and played with their sentiments. The voters of North-East Delhi need a voice, they need a leader who can empathise with them. Political parties should have understood long ago that the common people of the region need no political heavyweight to represent them, they rather need a common person like them as an MP,” Pandey said while addressing a gathering near Signature Bridge, from where his motorcade had started.

On Saturday, the AAP had organised a similar roadshow in the South Delhi constituency for its candidate Raghav Chadha.

Atishi, in her speech, focussed on full statehood for Delhi, the party’s primary poll plank in Delhi. “Both the BJP and the Congress have deceived the people of Delhi in the name of full statehood. The voters in Delhi deserve better facilities pertaining to education and other development areas, which only full statehood can bring them. I will be their voice for full statehood,” she said.

Each of the roadshow covered between 10km and 15km in the respective constituencies, senior AAP functionaries said.

On Monday, six candidates of the AAP filed their nominations. While one of the candidates had filed his nomination on Thursday, the party had postponed the nomination filing date of three candidates and combined them with the remaining three. This postponement, senior AAP leaders and Rai had said, was to give some extra time to the Congress to think over a potential alliance with the AAP, which did not happen till Monday.
