Satara in Western Maharashtra is one of the few seats NCP-Congress combination won in 2014. Five years later, incumbent NCP candidate Udayanraje Bhosale is facing a tought fight against Sena leader Narendra Patil.  'Maharaj' Udayanraj Bhosale, the 13th descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj though is confident of victory in this battle of Marathas in Satara.

Narendra Patil who was earlier part of NCP joined Shiv Sena earlier this year. He is a popular labour leader and is head of Annasaheb Patil Financial Development Corporation.  Uddhav Thackeray in his campaign trail in Satara said that Udayanraje has one of the lowest attendance in Parliament and rarely takes part in debates. However, whether people of Satara makes it a yardstick for voting is yet to be seen.

What may help Sena is the Maharashtra government successfully resolving the Maratha reservation issue. It is likely to give some positive traction to NDA in a seat which has been a NCP stronghold. Only in 1996 Sena won the seat. Else except way back in 1957, when CPI won, the seat has only seen legislators from either Congress or NCP. Since 1998, NCP has been winning and Udayanraje has won the last two times. He has comfortably polled over 50% votes both time and it will take a special effort from Sena to upset equation here.

Wai, Koregaon, Karad North, Karad South, Patan and Satara are the assembly segments under Satara Lok Sabha.

The 48 seats of Maharashtra are going to polls in four phases. The main parties are BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP. After contesting separately in last assembly elections, BJP and Sena are contesting together and so in Congress and NCP. Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) of Prakash Ambedkar has also put up candidates in all seats. Raj Thackeray's MNS is not contesting this election, though he has openly canvassed for Congress- NCP alliance.

A total of 14 Lok Sabha seats will go to polls on April 23 during the third phase.

They include Jalgaon, Raver, Jalna, Aurangabad, Raigad, Pune, Baramati, Ahmednagar, Madha, Sangli, Satara, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Kolhapur and Hatkanangle.
