AMMK submits application to get registered with EC

CHENNAI: T T V Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) on Monday submitted an application form, with requisite documents, to the Election Commission of India (EC) to formally get the party registered.
With four more assembly segments set to go for bypolls on May 19, the AMMK has sought the EC to allocate the ‘gift pack’ symbol for all the four candidates, named to contest the bypolls on behalf of the party.

“Today, we submitted the application, signed by our general secretary T T V Dhinakaran, to EC for formally registering the AMMK as a political party. We have submitted all documents required along with the application for consideration and acceptance by the EC,” AMMK counsel N Raja Senthoor Pandian told reporters in New Delhi.

He said the AMMK would be a secular party, above castes and religions, and would work for the upliftment of Tamils and Tamil Nadu.

“Since, we have submitted all relevant documents and letters, we hope our application will be duly processed by the EC and we would be called for further consultations for according formal clearance to make the AMMK a registered party,” Senthoor Pandian said.

As the process to file nominations for contesting the bypolls for the four assembly segments – Thiruparankundram, Ottapidaram, Aravakurichi and Sulur – began on Monday, AMMK has also sought the EC officials to allocate the ‘gift pack’, which was earlier allotted as the common symbol to all 59 candidates put up by AMMK in the recently held parliamentary elections and assembly bypolls in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

“Given the time constraint, we requested the EC officials to consider our request at the earliest,” he said.
