SWANSEA — Interstate 195 eastbound between exit 1 and 2 in Swansea was down to one lane at about 11 a.m. Monday after a pothole disabled about nine cars with flat tires, according to police.

The two left lanes of I-195 were closed as motorists pulled over to put on spare tires. The portion of the pavement where the pothole opened had been milled down.

MassDOT is working in the area, said State Police Lt. Tom Ryan. Crews were waiting preparing to fill the pothole with asphalt.

Another pothole opened up April 20 on the westbound side of I-195 just before exit 1 in Seekonk, causing several flat tires and traffic delays.
