The 33-year-old constable, posted at Chandannagar police station, will remain in police custody remand till April 25.
The suspect is married and has a son. He got friendly with the woman holding a degree in bachelor of computer application as he and her uncle were good friends.
Assistant inspector Manish Patil of the Mundhwa police said, “The suspect fell in love with the woman and started meeting her. He lured her to marry him and made false promises of divorcing his wife at the earliest. On the pretext of marriage, he allegedly raped her and indulged in unnatural offence at various places like Ghorpadi, Lohegaon and Kharadi between May 27, 2007 and April 15, 2019.”
The woman in her FIR said the constable forced her to withdraw cash amounting to Rs 1.85 lakh from her bank account and kept it in his possession. He also took away her school certificate among other documents and refused to return to her. He started avoiding her and refused to marry her. He threatened her with dire consequences.”
