Authorities are investigating what caused a fire that burned down a barn near sparta early this morning.

The sparta area fire district received a call around 5 about a barn fire on independence road.

The fire did not spread to a nearby house... but a lean-to attached to the barn was severely damaged.

No injuries were reported... but some chickens and a rabbit were lost in the fire.
