Our bishops fiddle while Rome burns.

Actually, the four bishops of Massachusetts have met, and after legal advice, have crafted a letter that some of you may have already heard, but most others will hear after Holy Week.

Simply put, the bishop’s letter is a call to action. That means that we, the people, will be called to contact our legislators about the horrible abortion bill now being moved through our state Legislature. A law that would make abortion in Massachusetts the most evil abortion law in the United States.

Out of respect for the many thousands of people in Massachusetts, people of every faith, I will not belabor the point at this time for the need to call a “Mayday" response to this proposed legislation, a literal “Battle of Beacon Hill,” to fight the legislative guns pointed at parents.

It is strange that our glorious days of fighting for freedom here in Massachusetts, typified by the Battle of Bunker Hill, is being dishonored by our current Legislature. One of our greatest freedoms, the freedom to raise our families as we choose, is being attacked by the proposed legislation, oddly enough an act titled, to “Remove Obstacles and Expand Abortion Access,” and the main obstacle to remove is parents.

This bill was created primarily by Rep. Patricia Haddad from Somerset, and Sen. Harriette Chandler of Worcester. They have numerous cosponsors of this bill.

What the bishops' letter cannot mention, but you and I can, is that we are voters, and our legislators should keep that thought in mind. As you know, our vote by each and every one of us is as powerful as that one vote any legislator can cast. We must remind them of the importance of our vote if our defense of our freedom as parents that is at stake here is to prevail.

God bless America, the land of the free and the home of the brave who keep it that way.
