At the time of a meeting with Thong Khon, the Cambodian Minister of Tourism, Sardar Umar Alam, the new representative of UNESCO to Cambodia, explained that under the management of the Cambodian government, his organization is successfully partnering with the ministries of Tourism and Culture, the Apsara Authority and the World Tourism Organization.
He pledged to deepen this collaboration to make the Angkor Archaeological Park and adjoining areas, like the Tonle Sap and Prek Toal, into the most preferred tourist attractions and biodiversity areas in the region.
Also, Mr. Umar Alam offered suggestions on improving the conservation of the Tonle Sap, Kulen Mountain, Preah Vihear Temple, Koh Ker, Beng Mealea, and Sambor Prei Kuk, which, he said, can be included in the travel packages that has ecotourism sites in the country’s southwest and northeast.
Mr. Umar Alam explained that his organization will continue to organize programs to support the development of the ecotourism and culture sectors of Cambodia, while supporting the Integrated Development Master Plan in Siem Reap, Angkor and surrounding areas.
