2 candidates file nominations
Candidates have started filing nomination for the Sulur byelection. Kathiresan from the Toddy Movement filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate on Monday. DMK candidate Pongalur N Palanisamy will file his nomination tomorrow, party source said.

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) announced K Sugumar, who was a former AIADMK MP, as its candidate. He was an MP from Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency during 2009-2014. He hails from Samathur near Pollachi and is the rural district secretary of AMMK. “Somanur, which falls under Sulur assembly constituency, has many powerloom companies. I would take necessary steps to set up a powerloom park there,” said Sugumar.


Meanwhile, A Noor Mohamed, an independent candidate, filed nomination papers dressed up as a clown. Mohamed, a resident of Sundarapuram, had contested in 31 elections. TNN
