Five days after the son of late politician N.D. Tiwari, Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, was found killed, a police officer on Sunday said they are probing the role of his wife Apoorva Shukla and two domestic helps.
After several rounds of questioning his family members and scanning their calls records and location, the police said they need to corroborate and verify.
On April 16, Rohit was found dead at his house in Defence Colony. The post-mortem report on Thursday revealed that he was strangulated and smothered. A murder case was registered under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC at Defence Colony police station on Thursday night and was subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch.
The Crime Branch officers continued their probe in the house.
“A forensic team re-visited the house and collected fingerprint samples from the room in which Rohit was found dead. We are investigating the case from multiple angles,” said another officer.
The police said they have not given clean chit to those present in the house at that time. They are examining footage of all seven CCTVs cameras installed in the house premises.
Phone calls
“Rohit had two mobile phones. They were either switched off or out of network coverage on April 15 midnight. At around 3 a.m. on April 16, two calls were made from his phone but it got disconnected due to a network issue. We are also examining call details of Ms. Shukla’s mobile phone,” said an officer. However, the post-mortem report stated that he was murdered between 1-1.30 a.m. on April 16.
Recently, on two different occasions, PCR calls were made from the house after the couple had a fight over some issue, the police said.
On Sunday, Rohit’s mother Ujjwala Tiwari said she was shocked after getting to know that he was murdered.
“Why was Rohit not woken up when he was sleeping till 4 p.m.? He and his wife had issues since day one of their marriage,” she said.
