The Macau government is considering purchasing health insurance for Macau residents who live in neighbouring Guangdong Province, the territory's top official, Chief Executive Fernando Chui has announced.
Mr Chui, addressing the Legislative Assembly (AL) last week, said that the move would enable residents, especially the elderly, to integrate with the Greater Bay Area (GBA) region, according to a report by Macau News Agency.
He said mainland China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security had consulted the Macau government in regard to the participation of residents from Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan in the mainland medical insurance system. The plan could move ahead if an agreement is reached with the Administration of Social Insurance Fund of Guangdong Province.
