Head constable manhandled during Karaga procession

A head constable from Halasuru Gate police station was allegedly abused and manhandled by four persons after he questioned them for misbehaving with the people watching the Karaga procession in Nagarathpet in the wee hours of Sunday.

Based on a complaint filed by Mufeez Khan, 40, the police have charged unknown persons for provoking breach of peace and assault on a government servant. Efforts are on to trace them.

In his complaint, Mr. Khan said that when the procession reached Nagarathpet, some persons dressed up as Veerakumaras allegedly started misbehaving with the people around. Noticing the commotion, Mr. Khan reached the spot and questioned the accused, who in turn manhandled him.

The other policemen rushed to the spot and rescued Mr. Khan and brought the situation under control.
